Qualitative Study on the Experiences of Focusing Collage Activity

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of participants emphasizing on felt sense who attended Focusing collage activities. Acquiring in-depth understanding of their experiences may facilitate the process of applying Focusing-oriented experiential psychotherapy which is a relatively new approach in the field of counseling and psychotherapy in Korea. 16 participants were interviewed and, using Consensual Qualitative Research (CQR), 3 main concepts were identified from the results of the interview: focusing experiences, focusing attitude, characteristics of focusing collage. The first main concept were identified focusing experiences and divided 3 domains.: 1) clarification/confirmation, 2) re-experience, 3) relief. The second main concept were identified focusing attitude and divided 3 domains.: 1) staying, 2) maintaining appropriate distance, 3) acceptance. The third main concept were identified characteristics of focusing collage and divided 3 domains.: 1) evaluation, 2) materials, 3) environment. Based on the results, implications and recommendations to apply focusing collage, furthermore Focusing-oriented experiential psychotherapy are suggested.
